Reading Massachusetts can now look forward to hard-hitting news and parodies about life in Reading.
THIS is NOT a parody. Unfortunately, it is a true story of abusive librarians who are drunk with power, at the library formerly next to the Liquor Junction. You can't make this stuff up!
It is so discourteous when a librarian ignores talented artists who want to have their works displayed in a public library.
When a Jaime Penny at Reading Public Library in Reading, Massachusetts absolutely refuses to respond to offers of donations to a library one must wonder what services this place does offer the patrons who support it?
On or about October 12th, 2016 Ms. Penny received a number of offers for donations.
There was no response whatsoever and - no doubt - there would be no response even though the person offering the donations asked a number of people on the staff how to properly go about contacting Penny.
It was a process. And then, after honest efforts were made and time was invested, Jaime Penny did not have the courtesy to give the person making the offer of multiple donations the time of day.
On December 9, 2016 at 11:49 am - after a complaint was filed on an intemperate librarian (and that's being kind,) - not Jaime Perry - Amy Lannon - the head of the library, wrote this nonsense:

Thank you for you suggestions of musical artist to include in the collection.
I will speak to Ms Penny about the delay in responding to you email.

What kind of public service is this?
Yes, this is the same public library in Massachusetts that some genius decided to install next to the Liquor Junction in Reading.
You betcha, Sarah Palin might say.
A nip and a nice book to read. But not with the unruly children screaming and yelling under the supervision of the eye-rolling Lorraine Barry, another piece of work at this library which was actually a nice place to go when it was in a warm and friendly old building that is now renovated.
Look, the new library is BEAUTIFUL, it is a stunning work of art. However, Ms. Barry - who was once helpful and courteous, is now a nasty old witch, full of herself, arrogant and abusive. And when I reported her to an officer of the Reading Police Department (looking her straight in the eye and saying "SHAME ON YOU, LORRAINE" quietly and professionally, her response when I was talking to the officer of the law was to roll her eyes like some sophomoric high schooler not getting her way. Shameful, absolutely shameful.)

At the old library - in the warm and comfortable atmosphere - the librarians all had separate areas. They were quiet, and the old library was peaceful as well.
In the new library an obnoxious, selfish patron sat down and started making noises, fishing through paper bags and being a general nuisance. Patrons ignored her. Then she whipped out the old cellphone and starting chatting it up...and chatting it up...non-stop.
Are you at the library to work at a computer, usually in high demand, or be loud and talk on the cellphone?
THE PATRON THE WOMAN WAS ANNOYING DID NOT TAKE THE LAW INTO HIS OWN HANDS, HE DID THE RIGHT THING AND REPORTED THE WRONGFUL CONDUCT TO THE REFERENCE LIBRARIAN IN CHARGE.
WHO DID NOTHING SUBSTANTIAL TO CHANGE THE BAD SITUATION.
When a patron did the right thing and asked for help from the reference desk, the reference librarian did not want to even approach the subject AT FIRST.
When she did, the woman on the phone IGNORED HER and kept talking. The library's position is that the woman was about to end the call. Nonsense. Enraged, the patron on the phone kept talking and talking and talking to show who the boss was.
REMEMBER: THE PATRON THE WOMAN WAS ANNOYING DID NOT TAKE THE LAW INTO HIS OWN HANDS.
HE DID THE RIGHT THING AND REPORTED IT TO THE PROPER AUTHORITY OF THE COMPUTER STATIONS.
When the patron who reported the cellphone abuse went to the reference desk and asked the librarian's name, the LIBRARIAN NOT ONLY REFUSED TO GIVE HER NAME, SHE YELLED LOUDLY AT THE PATRON AND BULLIED HIM.

THEN, later, the Reference Librarian with no name approached the man again while he was quietly working on the computer.
____________________________________________________________________
She interrupted him to spout some nonsense and he quietly, and professionally, responded:
"You were inappropriate. Do not bother me. I am going to report you." (Paraphrased.)
________________________________________________________________________________
The librarian who was reported to the front desk then retaliated and said that she was bullied and harassed.
NO, A PATRON TWICE DID THE RIGHT THING.
HE REPORTED THE CELLPHONE USE TO THE REFERENCE DESK, WHO DID NOTHING OF SUBSTANCE. WAS LAME IN HER RESPONSE.
THEN HE REPORTED THE BAD REFERENCE LIBRARIAN TO THE FRONT DESK.
WHAT DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND ABOUT THIS?
Lorraine Barry harassed the victim, continuing to try to give him a "written warning" - berating him and trying to force the written warning on him.
This is not the same Lorraine Barry that was kind and sweet at the old library. She's now arrogant and empowered - a complete abuse of power by a PUBLIC SERVANT who used to let all hell break loose when the children were running "Romper Room on Steroids" at the cavern they had next to the LIQUOR JUNCTION!
Mothers Against Drunk Driving must love that. Librarians so arrogant that no one on the staff seems to have complained when the library was put next to a liquor store.
Duh.
Libraries and Liquor Stores do not mix. But the woman who brought her child in screaming day after day after day with no warning from Lorraine Barry, no help for the quiet patrons, she got to run roughshod over the entire, loud, cavernous warehouse substituting for the library in Reading.
Shameful. Absolutely shameful.
Lorraine Barry has a history of ignoring patron complaints about the unruly children at the temporary space. SHE DIDN'T GIVE A DAMN, AND MULTIPLE SENIORS TALKED WITH EACH OTHER ABOUT THE ABUSE.
The librarians, no longer in the comfortable old library which was extremely quiet, were now loud and boisterous themselves. They would chat it up in the cavernous old warehouse, patrons be damned, making small talk loudly instead of doing work, doing the job that they are paid to do ON THE PUBLIC DIME.
No responsibility. No sense of decorum or doing service for the public. It is all about them AND THEIR PAYCHECK THEY ARE - BASICALLY - TAKING FROM YOU DISHONESTLY.

NOW BACK TO THE STORY ABOUT THE CELLPHONE ABUSER AT THE LIBRARY.
WHEN THE REFERENCE LIBRARIAN APPROACHED THE LOUD WOMAN ON THE CELLPHONE, THE WOMAN'S MOTHER SHOWED UP.
WHEN THE VICTIM SAID HE WAS A SENIOR CITIZEN THE MOTHER PIPED IN, LOUDLY AND RUDELY
'WE ARE SENIORS TOO. WE ARE SENIORS TOO."
DISRUPTING THE OTHER PATRONS AT THE LIBRARY.
The woman on the cellphone, now realizing she had created the situation, quietly turned to her mom and said "We" are NOT seniors." (meaning to say that her mother was, but she was not. And she was right. She finally came to her senses.)
THE REFERENCE LIBRARIAN RETALIATED BY FILING A FALSE COMPLAINT ON A MAN WHO FILED FIRST.

Re: Massachusetts Public Records Request
Dear Mr. LeLacheur, Ms. Lannon and/or Keeper of the Records,
This is a request under the Massachusetts Public Records Law
(M. G. L. Chapter 66, Section 10). I am requesting that I be provided a
copy of the following records:
1)Lorraine Barry's contract with the town of Reading and/or Reading Public Library
2)I
had asked for the name of the Reference Librarian whose response was to
raise her voice and yell at me when I requested her name. This request
is for her contract with the library and the document which contains
her salary.
The library website notes these names:
- Library Associates: Donna Beaulieu, Maureen Conwell, Louise Hetherington, Susan Haggerty, Andrea Hogan, Carol Macomber, Christine Rutigliano
The
fact that the librarian chose to raise her voice and yell rather than
state her name to a patron is a huge red flag confirming her guilt.
How does a patron file a complaint on a woman who is so unethical as to
not give her name while receiving public monies to - ostensibly - serve
the public?
_________________________________________________________
3)All
internal memos and documents concerning my original complaint and this
entire issue, including but not limited to my original complaint, police
reports, any and all documents regarding this incident, the bullying
by the staff of the library and its cover up.
4)All documents of complaints the library has made on any patrons over the past 7 years
5)All documents containing complaints filed against the library by patrons over the past 7 years
I recognize that you may charge reasonable costs for copies,
as well as for personnel time needed to comply with this request. If
you expect costs to exceed $10.00, please provide a detailed fee
estimate.
The request is due by December 19th, 2016.
The Public Records Law requires you to provide me with a
written response within 10 calendar days. If you cannot comply with my
request, you are statutorily required to provide an explanation in
writing.
Sincerely,
The Editor
